Frequently Asked Questions

I am often asked questions related to nutrition, working out, as well as motivation. I will try to answer the most common questions as best as I can, but if you want to know more, please feel free to send me a quick e-mail.

What does your training look like?

That is probably the hardest question for me to answer since it is constantly changing. Because I compete, I have an on and off season and my training varies depending on what my goal is. During the off season, my main goal is to pack on as much quality lean mass as possible so my trainings are geared toward strength and hypertrophy. They are usually between 50-60 mins and the rep and set scheme are never the same. I usually get longer rest period and do between 4-5 sets of each exercises. Now the rep portion is tricky because the important part is time under tension, depending on the tempo my rep will vary from 4-20!

During my contest prep, or on-season, I might still have one or 2 specific hypertrophy workouts, but the focus is to lean down so a lot of compound movement, short rest period, and usually 3 sets of 6-15 reps per exercise.

How many times a week do you lift weights?

During my off season, I work out 4-5 times a week. During contest prep, I train 6 times a week.

How many times a week do you do cardio?

I only do cardio for fun, so it varies depending on my mood! I often have to stop close to my competition in order not to lose too much muscle. During my off season, I try to go for a run or a hike about 3 times a week. I also try to do my cardio outside the gym. I love snowshoeing and skiing in the winter and swimming in the summer.

Do you practice any other sports?

I do Pilates and Yoga at least once a week.

What does your diet consist of?

I think that the most important thing is to enjoy your food; otherwise, you will never stick to the plan and let’s face it, life is too short to eat blah food all the time. I love to cook and make sure to have a varied balanced diet full of spices and flavours, whether I’m on or off season.

I eat clean all year and I allow myself to splurge and eat whatever I want 1-2 times a week when I’m not prepping for a show. I eat 5-6 meals a day and most of them include lean protein, good fats and carbs. I eat veggies, fruits, starchy carbs and make sure to have some dairy in my diet daily. During my off season, I don’t measure anything. I eat well, but I don’t go crazy.

During contest prep, the diet changes every 2 weeks depending on my progress and the portions are usually smaller and EVERYTHING is measured and weighed. Dairies are out, but I usually get to keep between 1-3 portions of fruits and oats a day.

How do you stay motivated?

That is an easy one! I LOVE IT!!!!! I love working out, I enjoy running and I love eating clean. I look forward to going to the gym and running on the mountain. I enjoy my meals because they taste good and I try new recipes all the time. I think the key is to find something you enjoy doing. It can be running, walking the dog, swimming, skiing, yoga… After all, you are doing this for you.

As long as you’re active and are consistent, you will definitely see results. Getting results and loving the skin you’re in is also the best motivation!
